The Aeolian Islands take their name from the legendary god of the winds, Aeolus. They’re volcanic in origin, although today only Stromboli is still active – sometimes spectacularly so. Although isolated, their position in the centre of the Mediterranean has seen them establish cultural and trade relations with all the surrounding lands. Listed as a Unesco World Heritage site, the islands are an idyllic destination for everyone, whether you’re trying to get away from it all or are looking for fashionable tourist hot spots.
