The sport of match racing, with its exciting close quarters manoeuvring by two boats, is growing in popularity internationally, encouraged by the media and commercial sponsorship - the America's Cup being the highest profile match racing event. This book explains the yacht racing rules, which apply to match racing, highlights acceptable and unacceptable practices on the water during both the pre-start manoeuvres and the race itself, and explains the on-the-water penalties that are likely to be imposed on competitors infringing the rules. The main part of the book is packed with a range of tactical scenarios showing the various moves which the opponents can make as well as their relative merits in a wide range of situations.
