Although much has been written about submarine action in World War II, practically nothing is known of the early submarines and their crews during World War I. Because of the limitations of these early vessels, submarine activity was largely confined to the Mediterranean sea. The authors have produced an extremely details record of early submarine action, compiled from official sources and encompassing the countries involved in the conflict. Their account is supported by a wealth of photographs never before published.
