Rossellini, dopo aver ricevuto questa lettera da Ingrid Bergman, allora una delle massime stelle hollywoodiane, la coinvolge nel progetto che diventerà il film Stromboli terra di Dio (1950), ma ancor prima del film è la storia d'amore tra il regista romano e l'attrice svedese a riempire le cronache di giornali e rotocalchi Federico Patellani, uno dei migliori fotografi dell'epoca, si reca sull'isola eoliana: le sue fotografie fanno il giro del mondo, perché non documentano solo la realizzazione del film, ma anche le condizioni di vita degli abitanti e la forza degli elementi (il mare, il vulcano). Dall’archivio Patellani, ora presso il Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea di Milano-Cinisello Balsamo, sono emerse le fotografie che aiutano a ricostruire nella sua integrità quella celebre storia. - "Dear Mr. Rossellini, I saw your fiIms Open City and Paisan, and enjoyed them very much. Rossellini, after receiving this letter from Ingrid Bergman - then one of the greatest Hollywood stars - involved her in the project that would become the film Stromboli (1950), but even before the film was released, it was the love story between the Roman director and the Swedish actress that filled the pages or newspapers far and wide. Federico Patellani, one of the finest photographers of the day, arrived on the Aeolian island: his shots made their way right around the world, for they documented not only the development of the film but also the Iiving conditions of the inhabitants and the power of the elements (the sea and the volcano). From the Patellani Archive, now housed at the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea of Milano-Cinisello Balsamo, photographs have come to Iight that help us reconstruct that famous story in its entirety.
