A clinker design that sails equally fast and well whether it is made from wood or fiberglass, the Nordic Folkboat has been around for 60 years. Many lighter, sleeker and faster boat classes have come and gone during those decades, yet, the Folkboat is still going strong. The class enjoys a remarkable popularity in some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging sailing areas, including Scandinavia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Designed during the early years of World War II, the 25-foot Folkboat is not a mere survivor of difficult times. Its minimalism, robustness and sea kindliness prevailed during the following years of prosperity and have helped it resist radical modifications. Costs have been kept in check and boats of all ages are still sailed and participate successfully in many regattas.
