In 1873 the Nederlandsch Americaanische Stoomboot Maatschappij was founded to ply the Atlantic from Rotterdam to New York. From its inception it was known throughout the shipping world as the 'Holland America Line' and deservedly earned for the Dutch seafaring nation a reputation that was second to none.
